groundwater

Groundwater is water that resides in the pore spaces of soils (air pockets between soil grains) underneath the surface of the Earth. The area beneath Earth’s surface in which every pore space is filled with water (completely saturated) is called the water table. Groundwater can be defined as the moisture present in underground soil or the flowing of water through aquifers. Part of the Ogallala aquifer lies beneath eastern Colorado.
