Underwritten with special supplemental funding though the US Geological Survey (USGS) STATEMAP Program, we digitized, re-compiled, and quality-controlled several previously-published 30×60-minute geologic map quadrangles as GIS data packages. In addition to the information the original 1:100,000-scale maps, data from more recent 1:24,000-scale (7.5 minute) CGS quadrangle mapping was merged into the final datasets. Four of the packages are surficial geology only; the others contain separate surficial and bedrock geology packages. These GIS-data-only publications were produced to the GeMS Level 3 metadata standards as mandated by the USGS. The GeMS schema for (geologic) GIS data is being developed by the USGS to support a single seamless nation-wide geological data standard. It is a primary component of the National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB).
These publications will aid in establishing regional trends across geologically complex areas of the state. Metadata included in each package provides provenance and other background information and is accessible through whichever GIS platform you may be using.
The original USGS map publications are listed under the citations tab below. There are more than 50 (30×60-minute) 1:100,000 scale map quadrangles covering Colorado of which 14 exist as separate geologic maps. These may be downloaded directly from the NGMDB catalog or mapview.
