Description
This 30×60 minute map, provided as a digital GIS dataset, is a 2022 compilation of the original 1989 USGS (Geologic map of the Montrose 30×60 Minute Quadrangle, southwestern Colorado) updated with other more contemporary data sources. This particular compilation includes separate surficial and bedrock geodatabase sets. This mapping project was funded jointly by the CGS and the United States Geological Survey through the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program. Further details on the compilation process and provenance are available in the various metadata forms found in the package. This series of 30×60 minute maps is comprised of a download package of GIS data only: there are no map plates or reports. Digital ZIP download. OF-22-16D
From the map metadata:
The Colorado School of Mines is pleased to present the Colorado Geological Survey’s “OF-22-16D Digital Compilation of Surficial and Bedrock Geology of the Montrose 30×60 Minute Quadrangle, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel Counties, Colorado (Data)”. Its purpose is to describe the bedrock geologic setting of this 30×60 minute sheet. The original geologic map, USGS I-1939, was published in 1989 and included both surficial and bedrock units. For this study, the surficial units were separated from the bedrock units. The map was scanned and georeferenced. Digital Data Services digitized the map units, contacts, faults, and relative fault movement. The data was then imported into a GeMS style geodatabase. Topology was applied using the GeMS topology rules and then the gdb was validated using the GeMS validation script. The map was validated to Level 3.
