Field Notes from the Director

Geoscientists in many places have struggled with the difficult problem of how to raise awareness of the possibility of a strong earthquake in an area, without alarming people. CGS also faces this same problem. Colorado is similar to several other states that have a history of strong earthquakes in the recent geologic past, but not enough information to say when or where the next big one will strike. We know enough about the earthquake risk in Colorado to know that we need to know a lot more.
