This report provides critical information on swelling soils, groundwater, landscaping, and maintenance, all of which will assist Colorado homeowners in minimizing damage caused by swelling bentonite soil. Major factors such as foundation design, basic construction quality, and the broad aspects of surface drainage are usually predetermined by others and are beyond the homeowner’s control. However, the homeowner is able to take action to help minimize some of the effects of this state-wide problem.
