This Proceedings volume contains 15 of the papers — on stratigraphy, physical and chemical properties, analyses, petrology, resource evaluation, geophysics of Rocky Mountain coal — presented in their entirety; of the remaining five presented, only their abstracts are included in this volume. The second and fourth symposiums held in 1978 and 1980 are also available as RS-04 and RS-10. 175 pages. Digital PDF download. RS-01D
Excerpt from the foreword:
This symposium series was designed primarily for the geologist exploring for and developing the coal resources of the Rocky Mountain region, from Montana to New Mexico, and from Colorado to Utah. The theme of this symposium, and of future ones in this series, is “Geology is the key.” The symposium was organized into four technical sessions: (1) Basic coal geology and geochemistry, (2) Rocky Mountain coal deposits, (3) Coal exploration techniques, and (4) Geologic aspects of coal mining and utilization.
