Details

The purpose of this report was to correlate Cretaceous through Eocene sections of the Uinta Basin of eastern Utah and westernmost Colorado with similar age rocks in the Piceance Basin of Western Colorado. This was the first detailed cross section to attempt to correlate the sections between the two basins. Includes gas, oil, and coal information with detailed cross-sections correlating Upper Cretaceous and Lower Tertiary rocks between the Uinta Basin of eastern Utah and western Colorado and the Piceance Basin of western Colorado. This product was prepared cooperatively between the CGS, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the Utah Geological Survey. The USGS publication number is Map I-1974. The geologic cross sections were generated from petroleum industry geophysical logs. The sections trend in a roughly east-west direction along the deep trough of the Uinta Basin, over the Douglass Creek Arch, and into the deepest part of the Piceance Basin. Included on Plate 1 is the key map, explanation of symbols used on drill holes and measured sections, legend of depositional environments shown on the cross sections, and data for oil and gas drill holes. 2 plates.
