A meteorite is a piece of a comet, asteroid, or meteoroid that has traveled from outer space, through the atmosphere, and onto Earth’s surface. As this piece enters the atmosphere, it forms a fireball (shooting star). The CGS published The Handbook of Colorado Meteorites in 2000.
