The county seat is <a href=”,_Colorado” target=”_blank”>Lake City</a>. The county is named in honor of George A. Hinsdale, a prominent pioneer and former Lieutenant Governor of Colorado. Notable locations include Gunnison National Forest, Weminuche Wilderness, and the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.
