Large, low-lying areas that are often below sea level. They are one of the most common inland places which collect sediment. Basins can be sedimentary or tectonic related. Tectonic or structural basins can be caused by tectonic processes. Sedimentary basins form when the weight of thick sediments accumulate in a basin further depresses the floor of the basin.
