Natural Gas
Colorado is the seventh largest gas producer, has the third largest gas reserves, and has the largest reserves of coalbed methane in the nation. The state has parts, or all, of five of the top 25 natural gas fields in the United States. About 40% of our natural gas is produced from coal seams — coalbed methane. Fifty-nine percent of Colorado’s production is exported to other states. Virtually all of the natural gas wells drilled in Colorado require hydraulic-fracture stimulation in order to produce commercial volumes of gas.
